Our most popular Nepal itinerary. Ten days covering the country's three essential destinations – Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara – at a pace that lets each reveal itself properly. You arrive in Kathmandu's ancient cultural heart, move to Chitwan's extraordinary wildlife sanctuary, and finish in Nepal's most beautiful valley city with the Annapurna range above the lake. Culture, wildlife and mountain scenery in one journey, staying in Nepal's finest hotels throughout.
This is the programme we recommend most often to first-time Nepal visitors who want to understand what the country actually offers beyond the trekking trails. It is also the itinerary that our repeat clients most often use as the template for a second Nepal trip, adjusting the hotel choices or adding specific experiences based on what they want to do differently. The routing works, the pacing is right, and Nepal's three great experiences complement each other in a sequence that builds naturally across ten days.
Two days exploring the Kathmandu Valley's UNESCO World Heritage Sites with a private expert guide. Pashupatinath Temple at the morning aarti, the immense Boudhanath Stupa circled by monks at dusk, the medieval palace squares of Kathmandu and Patan, and the hilltop Swayambhunath with its panoramic valley views. Staying at one of Kathmandu's finest heritage properties – Dwarika's Hotel or Hotel Yak and Yeti – adds a cultural dimension that compounds the sightseeing experience.
Two nights at Taj Meghauli Serai or Kasara Resort, both on or adjacent to the Rapti River in Chitwan National Park. Full-day open-top jeep safari with a naturalist guide tracking rhinos, tigers and the park's 600+ bird species. Canoe trip downstream past basking gharial crocodiles. Jungle walk at dawn with an expert tracker. Evening Tharu cultural programme. Chitwan's one-horned rhinoceros population exceeds 700 individuals – sightings are almost guaranteed on a full safari day.
Three nights at Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge or The Pavilions Himalayas, both offering extraordinary Annapurna range views from private terraces or verandas. Sarangkot sunrise to watch the peaks turn from dark blue to gold. Phewa Lake boat trip to the island temple. Optional paragliding above the valley. World Peace Pagoda hike. Simply sitting on a terrace watching Machhapuchhare change through the day is, for many visitors, the finest thing they do in Nepal.
