Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge is one of Nepal's most iconic luxury properties – a ridge-top lodge above the Pokhara valley with sweeping views of Machhapuchhare (the Fish Tail) and three of the world's fourteen 8,000m peaks. Built in the 1990s by the founders of Nepal wildlife tourism, the lodge combines colonial-era character with expert naturalist guiding and a depth of knowledge about the Himalayan landscape that few properties anywhere can match. Staying here is an experience in itself, not just an accommodation base.
The lodge sits 1,000 feet above the valley in 19 stone bungalow rooms arranged around the hilltop to maximise the panoramic views. Each room has a private veranda, locally made furniture, hot solar and electric showers, and walls hung with watercolour paintings of the surrounding peaks by English artist Luke Piper. The main lodge building – centred on a Nepali-style courtyard with a cosy fireplace bar – contains Colonel Jimmy's Library, a remarkable collection of Himalayan mountaineering literature and photography assembled by the late Col. J.O.M. Roberts, one of the pioneering figures of Nepal mountain tourism. There is also a secluded swimming pool that reflects Machhapuchhare Mountain on clear mornings.
This 6-day programme combines Tiger Mountain's extraordinary Pokhara setting with the cultural richness of Kathmandu, bookended by a night at Dwarika's Hotel on arrival. Three full days at the lodge allow genuine engagement with what it offers: guided hikes through the surrounding forest and farmland with expert naturalists, yoga and meditation, massage, evening star-gazing, and simply sitting on the veranda as the mountain light changes through the day.
Three nights at Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge with sweeping Annapurna range and Machhapuchhare views. Expert naturalist-guided walks through forest, farmland and local villages. Yoga, meditation and Ayurvedic massage at the lodge. Colonel Jimmy's Library – a unique collection of Himalayan mountaineering history. Swimming pool reflecting Machhapuchhare Mountain. Day excursion options to Pokhara's cultural sites, Phewa Lake and Sarangkot. Kathmandu cultural sightseeing and one night at Dwarika's Hotel on arrival.
